The script of “Other People“ directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna is based on a brilliant hip-hop poem by Dorota Masłowska, one of the most important Polish writers of the young generation, known from the bestsellers “White and Red“ and “The Queen’s Peacock“ and the famous drama “No Matter How Hard We Tried“ (co-production of TR Warszawa and Schaubühne Berlin, 2009). “Other People“ is prepared by an artistic collective consisting of TR Warszawa ensemble, composers, Warsaw based hip-hop artists, graphic designers, animators, visual and video artists.
The place of action and the hero of this urban anti-ballade is Warsaw, a smog-drenched metropolis, fueled by drugs and cheap wine. A city that attracts careerists and losers, artists and corporate employees, students and dealers, promising illusive happiness and counterfeit success. 'Other People' is an attempt to portray late capitalism and problems caused by it: economic and social inequalities, the frustration of young generation, and growing nationalism. It is a story of a dysfunctional, divided community which is bursting with prejudice and hatred from the inside.
Can we cross the class barriers?
Can we break the information bubble and understand the Others – those who think differently, have a different system of values, different language and taste?
Besides access to the Internet, do we have anything else in common?
