RECREATIONAL AND SIGHTSEEING BEER TOUR
IN THE "ŠVYTURYS" BREWERY*

Forget daily works, and leave all cares behind. Many have tasted "ŠVYTURYS" beer, but do you know why it is famous worldwide? Lets go together on the recreational sightseeing BEER TOUR where you will learn about brewing traditions and get an opportunity to watch brewing process. The first part of the tour includes acquaintance with the brewing technology. If you are lucky, you may come across the "magic tap" from which you will be able to taste the brand fresh beer coming straight from the brewery! And the second part of the tour is the funniest - tasting of three brands of beer! Curious and merry stories and jokes, a glass of cold "ŠVYTURYS" beer and, foremost, a company of friends and colleagues is the best formula for a relaxing and memorable time.   

Duration: 2 hour duration BEER TOUR should be booked in Klaipeda Tourism and Culture Information Center.
Groups: 5 to 50 persons received.
Tour starts: Monday-Thursday from 10.00 a.m. to 16.00 p.m.; Fridays from 10.00 a.m. to 15.00 p.m.

Klaipeda Tourism and Culture Information Center offers You to look round the city from St. Mergelės Marijos Taikos Karalienės Church tower, which is 46.5 meters height. 

The admission fee for adults - 3lt, children - 2 Lt.

Some information about St. Mergelės Marijos Taikos Karalienės Church:
In 1956m. the government gave the permission to build a church.
In  June 30, 1957 the corner-stone of the church was consecrated.

Architects: J. Baltrėnas and K. Zdončius; engineer-designers V. Žemaitis and B. Bacevičius, master A. Stonys
In August 15 , 1960 the church was closed.
The main fresco of the church is 96 sq m - the author painter A. Kmiekiauskas.
The authors of the mat fresco are from Klaipeda: A. Banyte (7 trespasses) and J. Vosylius (Jonas baptizer).
The church is 63 metres long and 25 metres wide. Naves are 14.5 metres high. The tower is 46.5 metres high.
Over the front door there is a statue of Marija Taikos Karaliene, which is 2.8 metres high.
25 November, 1988 the first Mass was sacrificed in the returned church. The church was rebuilt according  to the first project of J. Baltrenas and the master A. Stonys.

“THE SECRETS OF CATCHING AMBER”* 

During the tour you will find out about the origins and properties of amber and see an original collection of guide Igoris. Amber catching, picking and gathering tricks will be disclosed to you. The bravest will be able to try their strength with a scoop net in the sea waves. Of course, everyone will come home in jovial mood  carrying pieces of amber.
You may yourself choose the site for the tour by the sea. Recommended places include:
1. The Seaside Regional Park nearby the blackout military bunkers "MEMEL-NORD" extant from the Second World War times where you will also hear the story of their origins.
2. In Melnragė near the northern breakwater where you will learn interesting facts galore about the port of Klaipėda.

“MEMEL IN THE 19th CENTURY”*

Let’s turn back the time and take a glance at the 19th century Memel through the prism of history.

A significant historic fact of the early 19th century Memel is the status of the temporary capital of Prussia. The town was the residence for one year of King Frederick William III, his consort Louise, his family and court, and the government.

The development of the city was halted by the Great Fire of 1854, which wrought havoc in the town. The fire destroyed the city featuring Baroque and Classicism style buildings and, following rebuilding, the city’s dominant architectural styles were Historicism and Art Nouveau.

The twentieth century was a period of change, struggles and changing circumstances for the people living in the territory of the present-day Lithuania. The Second World War made havoc to the map of nation building... For many of us the war is merely a hard-to-understand historical event. The concrete fortifications found in Klaipėda region give us an opportunity to at least partly get feeling of the moods of the war that raged long time ago. The fortifications have survived as practically sole witnesses of the war.  However, we may "make talk" the silent witness to the Second World War – the coastal artillery battery MEMEL-NORD...
During the tour we’ll visit the secret coastal artillery battery MEMEL-NORD, you’ll hear the story of its origins, and learn about the German coastal defense fortifications in Klaipėda region...
