The idea of “Vilties bėgimas” (“Hope run”) arose in 2008, when Pranciškonys brothers and brother Benediktas decided to realise a project that was considered for a long time – to establish an information and aid centre for West Lithuanian oncological patients in Klaipėda.
Then, it was decided to organise the “Hope run” marathon in Klaipėda. The funds collected during the event were put to the construction of the centre.
Now, we can celebrate that the “Hope run” marathon is being held annually and it attracts a big crowd of runners and generous people (from 5000 to 8000 people). Also, 7 years after the first marathon was organised, by making use of the funds received from the marathon events as well as EU assistance and private sponsor funds, Pranciškonys brothers accomplished their goal – the oncological centre opened its doors in 2014 and about 1500 help-needing people visited who were provided with about 3000 various services.
